...at 2 years old.
The blogger was born and raised in Manila, Philippines until the age of 20. He then studied in Japan on a government scholarship for 5 years and stayed on after graduating to work for a Japanese electronics manufacturer in Sales & Marketing for 4 years. He moved to the finance industry becoming a junior trader in equity derivatives for a French bank in Tokyo. After 2 years, he was posted to Hong Kong for 3 years. At about the same timing, he married his super-woman Japanese wife and had their first daughter in Hong Kong. He returned to Tokyo as a senior trader with a U.S. bank then hopscotched on to a Belgian bank where he finally found his home. Two more children--a son and a daughter--were born as he rose through the ranks to become head of the Equity Derivatives Trading team in Tokyo. He self-proclaimed retirement in 2007 and now lives with his family as an immigrant in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Please read the very first blog entry to see how this came about.

The soft objective of The Halifax Immigrant is to chronicle our journey as immigrants to Halifax, Nova Scotia. To uproot oneself from one country and move to a different one is not only a big decision but also a big experience. There is, of course, no “typical” immigrant. Each person will have his/her own story to tell. I would like to tell mine.

In the storytelling, I shall sometimes be jumping back and forth on the timeline until hopefully, I am able to weave a complete picture of the experience. Further on, I hope the blog evolves to become an outlet for sharing our continuing challenges and delights as we do our bit to become part of our adopted community.
As a general rule, I do not mention any person specifically by name. People who do know me may, of course, be able to guess who I am talking about; but to the others who simply happen to visit, I hope the generic anonymity of the content does not dissuade you from reading on.

This blog has no political agenda. All opinions expressed are personal. All errors are no one else’s but mine.
