mizuhiki

The mizuhiki cord is made of washi (Japanese paper), tightly wound, starched to give it stiffness and then coloured.  A long, long time ago, the cord was used to bind samurai hair.  Nowadays, it is used ornamentally on gifts and decor in times of celebration.  Many ikebanistas use mizuhiki to add a festive atmosphere to their arrangements, especially around the New Year.

Made in Japan.

Design and tie your own ribbons.

Use in ikebana arrangements.

Each cord has 5 strands strung together.

Use these envelopes when giving a gift cheque (or cash) in weddings and other celebrations.

The little piece of origami on the top right corner of the envelop is called “noshi”.

It is commonly attached to gifts as an expression of “good wishes”.

Instead of the usual ribbon, why not add a unique ornament to that special gift.
