Tenugui Drawstring Pouches

These traditional Japanese drawstring bags are handy helpers to organize all those tiny personal items.  You can even carry your lunch sandwich in them if you want!  Cut from original tenugui* cloth, they have authentic Japanese patterns that are simple but elegant.  In Japan, ladies usually carry them as their handbags when they wear their summer kimonos (yukata).  Choose from the many designs below.  Look for those with company logos...we think they add a distinctly local Japanese flavour that rarely leaves the small towns where they come from.

Approximate size: 22-26 x 14-15 cm (8.5-10” x 5.5-6”).  Each bag is individually sewn and size varies slightly according to the cut of the cloth.  (Because each bag is hand-made, we cannot guarantee that you will get the exact same bag shown in the pictures.  Photos are for reference only to help you choose the fabric design.)

100% cooton fabric with nylon strings.

Made in Nova Scotia, Canada.

Price: $3.50 ea.

*Tenugui (literally “hand wipe”) is the all-purpose rectangular cotton cloth traditionally used as a towel or a headband to absorb perspiration.  Because of its beautiful patterns, some tenugui are used as tapestry or table runners.  Kendo,(the art of Japanese swordsmanship) practitioners still use the tenugui as their traditional head cover underneath the mask.
